Bridge construction barge
Tell City Boat Works began building a 195’ x 70’ x 10’ ringer crane barge in October of 2009. This barge would be used for bridge construction. The barge was built to ABS inland rules, but not classed. The deck, bottom, sides, and transom were all made of 1/2″ plate, the longitudinal bulkheads were 3/8″ plate, and the transverse bulkheads were 5/16″ plate. It has a uniform deck loading of 1500 lbs/ft². The barge included four spudwells and a 35’ circular bulkhead for a ringer crane. Four 80’x10’x8’ outrigger pontoons were also built for this barge to assist with crane operation.
